Digital AnarchyThe digital revolution is here. It is transforming the world of film, music and entertainment in ways that are only just beginning to be understood. It will change the way the human race knows itself and lead to a renaissance of creativity as yet unknown in human history. In the words of Todd Verow, resident luminary of Bangor Films: "...it's not a fad. It's the beginning of what many hope is the fruition of our dreams about technology and human communication.... |
The Medium that MattersThe moving picture medium, be it movies, TV news, soaps, or streaming media on the internet, is the most influential in shaping human thought and opinion. With the advent of DV, creative or concerned individuals who simply feel they have something to say or an idea to express (who are submitted daily to a barrage of talking heads that have all too much to say and who cannot be answered back), no longer need to go through the filter or obstacle-course of the establishment media, only to have their ideas watered down by budget constraints, political correctness, or what people are considered to want. |
The Medium is NOT the MessageForget even digital video. Anybody with a computer and a connection to the internet can download an evaluation copy of Flash, spend a few hours creating a rudimentary movie, and upload it to a free site the same day. If people think it is cool or important, word - as it does on the internet - will get around and suddenly you've got a cult following. |
The New Geometry of CommunicationIt's not about "12 billion eyeballs" or free MP3's. It's about geometry. The old way was to climb the pyramid and hope the powers-that-be at the top would let you create. A centralised system where everything is funnelled through and filtered by the established corporations. It was about broadcast and 'dispensing'. A one-way street. The new model is the network (notice that the surface of a globe has no centre or perimeter). A writhing shifting organic mass of connections. Free to build structures, groups, alliances and relationships, as and when they are needed. And tear them down when they are no longer required. It's about communication and it's a two-way street. At last we begin to see a future where everyone can get their "15 minutes of fame". More from Todd Verow: "With total artistic control we are truly independent, a word that is more often than not, hijacked and warped for instant street credibility and artsy clout." |
More Quotes that inspire:"If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?"~Alexander Solzhenitsyn |
